Learning Jewellery Making Online

I've been working on a new jewellery range, I'm not ready to share them yet but I thought I'd share a bit about the skills used in them!

The new designs will be using some of the skills I learnt during my Diploma courses, expect sparkly gemstones! If you’ve been around for a while you might have seen me share some of the projects I did as part of the Diploma in Fine Jewellery and the Advanced Jewellery Diploma. These are online, year long courses that are fully supported throughout.

5 years ago I actually went down to London to do the Diploma in Silver Jewellery in person. I wanted to add to my skills that I’d picked up at an evening class back home and this was perfect. It gave me such a confidence boost and I learnt some amazing techniques like tube setting (the image is my first ever attempt!), hinges and complex soldering. It changed everything for me and was the first step to quitting me “proper job” and setting up my own jewellery classes!

The pandemic saw the Diplomas move online in 2020 and this meant I could now do the next level course at home! I’d wanted to go back to London for it but couldn’t get the time off work or afford the travel so this move was perfect. This was a step up from the Silver Diploma with more complex stone setting, intricate pieces and things I never thought I’d be able to make - this ring for example! I loved being able to rewatch the videos as many times as I needed to get the instructions to sink in!

After that, Jewellers Academy released the Advanced Jewellery Diploma which I finished last summer. Again, another step up but look at the sparkly things! I also love that we played with some unusual materials and techniques as well as plenty more stone settings! All the skills that we learnt over the years were then used to create our final project - 5 pieces that show our signature style. This was a challenging piece of design work, lots of thinking, lots of prototyping and figuring out. I'm so proud of what I've created over the courses.

If you’ve taken a beginners class with me, you might be interested in taking one of the online courses yourself - the Diploma in Silver Jewellery would be a great place to start, building on those basics and taking you through to an intermediate level. The courses last a year with termly assessments and feedback from a mentor. They are really well supported and the videos are fantastic, with great close ups!

As a member of the Diploma Launch Team, I am proud to be affiliated with Jewellers Academy for this course. Through this affiliation, I may receive affiliate payments at no cost to you. I wholeheartedly believe in this Diploma course and wouldn't endorse it otherwise and I'm excited to be sharing this with others who are passionate about jewellery making. If you do enrol on this course and are referred by me, I would love you to let me know and also to let Jewellers Academy know at contact@jewellersacademy.com
