5 Things to do in Pocklington, East Yorkshire

Looking for things to do in Pocklington? Located in the picturesque East Yorkshire countryside, Pocklington is a charming market town filled with history, quaint streets, and friendly locals. With its close proximity to York, Hull and the stunning Yorkshire Wolds, Pocklington offers a perfect escape for those seeking a tranquil and enjoyable getaway. Whether you're crafty, a culture enthusiast, nature lover, or simply looking for a relaxing break, Pocklington has something for everyone.

Here are a few activities you should consider when visiting this hidden gem:

a collection of jewellery tools and a set of silver rings. There is a rawhide mallet, a large file, a pair of pliers, a ring mandrel and a saw.

A Jewellery Making Workshop

If you are coming for the weekend, why not try a silver jewellery class. Held in a central location with plenty of parking, these classes are perfect for beginners and a great way to spend a few hours getting creative!

Chose from Stacking Rings, Pendants and more, you can learn a new skill and come away with a lovely memento of your holiday.

Burnby Hall Gardens

Burnby Hall Gardens is one of my favourite places to spend a few hours. There are two lakes full of hungry fish which are great fun to feed so make sure you get some fish food as you go through the reception area. The lakes are also home to a National Collection of Waterlillies that are probably the greater draw than the fish...

In April/May time they have an amazing Tulip Festival too which is my favourite time of year to go, there are so many different varieties and colours.

There's a lovely cafe and a small museum too which shows off some of Major Stewarts collections from his travels.

Try some handmade gelato at Swirlz

Some of the nicest ice cream I've ever had, you have to take a trip to Swirlz. They have an ever changing range of flavours in the freezer (if honeycomb is on, you've got to have that) and theres other treats like waffles and pancakes too.

Kilnwick Percy Hall

The Hall is home to Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre and set in beautiful grounds that you can stroll around, with a lakeside and woodland walk. Then grab a cake and a coffee at the World Peace Cafe, which is where this picture was taken - what a view!

You can walk there from town if you want to get your steps in or it's a short drive. If you time it right, there is a free 15min guided meditation session at 2pm on weekends.

Whisk Cafe

There is definitly a food theme here but my last suggestion is to enjoy a bite to eat at Whisk in the town centre. On a nice day you can sit outside and watch the world go by. They have a lovely food menu and always an excellent cake selection. And clues in the name, you get a cute little whisk with your coffee!

So whether you are using Pocklington as a base to explore the Yorkshire Wolds, as middle ground for York, Beverley and Hull or just as somewhere new to explore, there is alsorts to keep you occupied! So the next time you find yourself in East Yorkshire, make sure to include Pocklington on your itinerary.
