And April...
I haven't been doing so well with this Gemstone of the Month project. It's turning out to be Occasional Gemstone project.
I've gone with a London Blue Topaz. The setting for this was also a bit of a challenge - I don't do a lot of claw settings. I started the ring as a project with my Sunday class and fell out with it when one of the claws fell off. Everyone else got on with theirs (without throwing a paddy) and mine sat in a box as we moved on to something else.
I thought this pretty much made piece would be a great shortcut for getting a Gemstone of the Month piece completed for February, short month, short on time, perfect solution right? No. February went in the blink of an eye. March was a month of holidays and recovery from holidays. Now it's the end of April as I'm writing this.
To make up for the lack of Gemstone of the Month pieces, I decided to put a bit more effort into this claw set ring. I fixed the broken claw. While I was soldering that on, I got the great idea to add some granules - little silver balls. So off I went. Originally it was going to be 3 a side... then it got a bit addicting!
Once I'd convinced myself there were enough, I set the stone and gave the piece a final once over. Conveniently, this ring fits me perfectly so the original is staying with me.
You can get your own made especially for you though. It won't be an exact replica, some of the granules will be different sizes, different placement, that sort of thing. But it will be equally beautiful, if not more so!
